Commissioners seek applications for citizen boards and councils

Hillsborough County, Florida -- Hillsborough County Commissioners are seeking residents to serve on several County citizen advisory boards and councils. Residents interested in seeking appointment must be registered voters in Hillsborough County. These are voluntary positions, and members serve without compensation. Applicants may apply to more than one board, but may only serve on one board at a time. All applicants must submit the Standards of Conduct form along with their application.

Hillsborough Human Relations board to meet

Tampa, Florida --The Hillsborough County Human Relations Board which reviews complaints filed under the County Human Relations Ordinance meets at 12 p.m. Tuesday May 14 at County Center.

The meeting will be on  the 26th Floor of County Center, in Conference Room B.

County Center is located at 601 E. Kennedy Blvd. in downtown Tampa.

Hillsborough County seeks public feedback on its Draft Strategic Plan

Hillsborough County, Florida -- After three months of public input and five months of planning workshops, research and retreats, the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners has created their draft Strategic Plan for the County.

Residents are encouraged to review the draft Strategic Plan and give their comments on the Plan through the Strategic Plan blog, via email or phone by May 14. The County Commission will take their final vote on the Plan at their regular Board meeting on May 15.

Volunteers needed for Restore Act Committee

Pasco County, Florida -- The Pasco County Board of County Commissioners is looking for volunteers to serve on its Restore Act Committee.

The committee will provide input to the Board on the use of potential Restore Act funds that could come to the County as a result of fines against companies responsible for the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

The Restore Act Trust Fund was established to maintain funds and certain percentages will be used for ecological and economic restoration of the Gulf Coast region.

Pasco Sheriff’s Office hires New Port Richey Police Chief

New Port Richey, Florida -- The Pasco County Sheriff's Office has announced it has hired New Port Richey Police Chief James Steffens as its new Chief Forensic Investigator.

Steffens will be replacing Charlie May who spent 25 years at the Pasco Sheriff’s Office and the last seven years as Chief Forensic Investigator. May’s retirement will be effective on March 31, 2013.

Pasco County, Florida -- With candidate qualifying for the April 9, 2013, Municipal Elections in five of six Pasco County municipalities kicking off Feb. 12, Pasco County Supervisor of Elections Brian Corley sent out the following email to voters:

The cities of New Port Richey, Port Richey, San Antonio, St. Leo and Zephyrhills have council or commission seats open and will be holding elections for voters residing within those city limits. In addition, the city of Zephyrhills will also be electing a mayor.
