Rasmussen College to offer CPR classes

Rasmussen College recently announced their partnership with In-Pulse CPR to offer CPR classes for the public at the college’s five Florida campus locations.

In-Pulse CPR is an American Heart Association-authorized provider of CPR and ECC courses. The one-day, 4-hour classes will held throughout the next four months at Rasmussen’s Florida college campus locations in Ft. Myers, New Port Richey, Land O’ Lakes, Ocala, and Tampa/Brandon.

The first CPR Classes will start this January and are open to both Rasmussen College Students and the general public.

Tampa, FL -- MedExpress Urgent Care is offering free flu shots to children at all locations from Nov. 1 - 14.

All children in grades K through 12 (ages 4 to 18) are eligible.

According to The Center for Disease Control (CDC), a yearly vaccine is the first and most important step in protecting against flu viruses. The CDC states young children are more susceptible to the flu and recommends everyone 6 months and older get a flu vaccine. This year’s vaccine can help prevent against the three main flu viruses (H3N2, Influenza B and H1N1).

South Tampa Walgreens customers raise money for Moffitt

Customers of South Tampa Walgreens and other stores around the Tampa Bay area came together to raise $223,000 for the Moffitt Cancer Center.

Moffitt Cancer Center and Walgreens, raised the money through the "Make A Difference" campaign.

Walgreens customers bought $1 and $5 "Make A Difference" circles in stores to benefit diversity research programs at Moffitt. The campaign took place in nearly 300 stores throughout the West Coast of Florida and in south Georgia during June.

"We (Moffitt Diversity) were losing some of our funding for a couple of outreach programs for certain communities. We were going to have to cut programs," B. Lee Green, Ph.D., the vice president of Moffitt Diversity said in a release. "When I shared that story with the executives at Walgreens, the first thing out of their mouths was 'We can help you with that'. So, we went from thinking we weren't going to have enough funding to having an abundance of funding where we could actually triple the amount of work we do in the community because of this partnership."

Hillsborough County, FL -- The 2011-12 Influenza vaccine is now available to the community at the Hillsborough County Health Department's Immunization Clinic located at 2002 East 26th Avenue, Tampa.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, (CDC) recommend that everyone 6 months of age and older should get a yearly flu vaccine. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for your body to develop an immune response. Get vaccinated now so that you will be protected when flu season begins.

In the United States, influenza season usually begins in October and can last until May.

Precautionary boil water notice lifted

Tampa, FL -- The City of Tampa has announced that following water quality testing by the Tampa Water Department, areas of New Tampa are no longer under a precautionary boil water recommendation.

City of Tampa Water Department customers east of I-275, west of Morris Bridge Road, north of Dona Michelle Drive and south of County Line Road were placed under the boil water recommendation yesterday after a temporary decrease in water pressure to the area.

The City of Tampa appreciates everyone's patience during this period.
