Teen arrested after explosive device found at school
Crime

Wesley Chapel, Florida -- A 15-year-old Wesley Chapel High School student was arrested for setting off a home-made "acid bomb" Tuesday morning.

Pasco deputies say the student set off a chemical reaction in a plastic bottle and then threw it in a trash can, just outside the school building. An assistant principal noticed smoke coming from the trash can, and the school was placed in a modified lockdown to ensure student and faculty safety.

No injuries are reported, but several staff members may have been exposed to some of the vapor and residue from the device.

The male student, who has not been identified, is a 10th grader at the school. He is charged with making and discharging a destructive device, a felony, and a misdemeanor charge of disruption of a school function.

Acid bombs can typically be created using common household items.
